Raine Maida releases new single.

Normally I will be posting/updating at the end of the week on a Sunday, but seeing as this is my first post, I’ll make an exception.

Raine Maida, known to many as “the vocalist for Our Lady Peace” released the first single from his upcoming album “We All Get Lighter” this past Friday (Feb. 8th). Now Raine’s been teasing us for quite a while now. His first, and currently only solo album to date, “The Hunter’s Lullaby” was released in November of 2007. He then, much to his fans’ delight of course, went to work on Our Lady Peace’s 7th studio album, “Burn Burn” which was released in 2009. It was then said that starting on August 24th 2010, he would start releasing songs off his upcoming second solo album, releasing the completed album in 2011.

I bought the single “Bury Me With A Gun” the day it came out. I liked it, it was different than his first solo album, but I wasn’t blown away. Needless to say, this was the only track released in 2010. In January 2011, his website was updated with a release date of November 2011. But, you guessed it, another tease. Soon after that his website was updated again to suggest that Pachamama would be released in February 2012. Finally, in June of 2012, a few months after the release of Our Lady Peace’s 8th studio album “Curve,” Raine released a 3 song EP called Pachamama and a few months later the follow up, a second 3 song EP called Pachamama II.

But the best was yet to come. Just this past January, Raine said that the first single of his new album “We All Get Lighter” would be released on February 8th, and he put a date on the release of the album, March 26th, 2013.

The single, titled “Montreal,” has a similar sound to the Icelandic band, Of Monsters and Men, and a very different sound from practically anything else Raine has done by himself, and yet has the tiniest and familiar hint of the sound from his first album. The song has a very clear and distinct use of horns, and is the perfect song to listen to indoors during a snowstorm.

Montreal can be bought on iTunes Canada now (and I suggest you do), while samples of the other tracks on the albums can be found on his Soundcloud page.

Can March 26th come soon enough? To keep up-to-date on all things Raine Maida, check him out on the following:
