Sorry I’ve been a bit MIA folks. Finishing up the school year makes for not a lot of time for new music. I did get a chance to catch some shows at Canadian Music Week, but not much since then except a trip to Michigan to see Hey Ocean! Expect a lot out of the summer though, especially with North by Northeast coming up in Toronto.
This past week we had new stuff from an artist I’ve already talked about, and a new band that I was shown.
My boy Latto, that you can read more about here, released a new track called “National Anthem” that samples Lana Del Ray. A much more serious track than the track he released a few months ago, “Harlem Shake.” I mentioned that he is working on a summer release, which I assume this track will be a part of. It’s important for an artist to be able to be both serious and light in his writing. Latto does just that. If this is a sign of things to come from Latto, this boy’s going to be huge. Check his video out below, and give him a follow on twitter @Latto
To be perfectly honest, when I saw the name Murder by Death, I was expecting a hardcore band. This band is anything but hardcore. Their sixth studio album, Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon was released this past September. They have the third largest Kickstarter campaign, raising almost $200,000 and are a really talented bunch. They’ll be touring the U.S. and Europe in May, so if they’re coming your way, I fully recommend checking them out. This is a band that is now definitely on my radar, and can’t wait to catch them live.
