Firstly, apologies for the this Sunday Sound not coming to you on Sunday. My mother took priority yesterday, I’m sure you’ll all understand.
Anyways, if you didn’t know this about me already, I love twitter. That’s because it has become a huge source of new music for me. One such new find is Danville, Illinois band, Cloud Gavin. To be honest, I’m not sure I would have given them a listen, or if I would have enjoyed them as much as I did if the foundations had not been laid in 2011 and early 2012, when I was introduced to two bands called Brand New and Manchester Orchestra. Two bands I now greatly enjoy. They also happen to be listed in Cloud Gavin’s description on Twitter. The band’s sound has elements of emo, and post-hardcore that I wouldn’t always be interested in, and yet they got through to me.
A strong drum beat and catchy guitar riffs, not to mention really good use of backing vocals. Maybe I’m just new to this scene which is why I’m so taken with these gentlemen. I think when bands like this were really big, I wasn’t listening to anything post-1980.
The band’s second album, Posture, was released last July, and a music video for their track “Masquerade” was posted to YouTube in January. I genuinely enjoy the mix of mellow tracks like “Fiasco” and “Royalty” with more upbeat songs like “Pilot” and the title track “Posture.”
Find the music video for Masquerade and a live video for Posture below, and check out the album Posture on Cloud Gavin’s BandCamp.
