It’s a new month and you know what that means! It’s time to announce the rapper of the month. I remember chillin on my computer jamming out to some hot fire music when I came across Jeremy Chine’s song “How We Roll”. Once I hit the play button I knew that he was the rapper of the month for September. Jeremy is coming out of the hip hop hot spot that is Atlanta and he’s ready to take over the world. I had the chance to talk with Jeremy about the hip hop scene in Atlanta, his daily outfit, upcoming album and so much more.

What’s it like coming out from Atlanta right now?

It’s pretty cool, Atlanta is a good place for creativity. I think there is a good connection between the crowd and the artist coming from here. With events being thrown all the time you find yourself around a lot of different people.

Atlanta has always been a hip hop super scene. What is it like for people first starting out and just coming up?

Everyone has their own experience if you ask me, I know when I first started making music I was not that good ha ha. I used to look up to people in my old neighbourhood who made music in my friends house across the street from me, It was his older brother and his friends. It was crazy to me ha ha, I was like man I could do this. I was real young and into computers so I just wrote down the program they used and went home and downloaded it.

How long have you been rapping for?

Well as a solo artist I’ve been creating for 4 years but technically 6.

How long were you working on “How We Roll”?

I usually finish a song in one day. Then just work on the mix and fix up things that I hear as the days go by leading up to whenever I plan to release it.

Did you know it would get the reaction that it did?

Not really, I just put it up because I told my listeners to get “All I Got” a hundred more plays and I’ll release a new record. So I just put it out for them once they did it.

How do you start creating a song? Do you hear the beat first? Or do you start out with the lyrics?

I make the beat first, then I start on the lyrics. I feel like usually the beat tells me what to say. Sometimes I write if the beat is telling me to write, and sometimes I just go off the top.

What can people expect coming up next? Maybe some videos? A project?

Yep, visuals and a album. Very soon.

Do you produce all your beats?

Yea, I’m producing mainly everything on this upcoming project. I have a couple of producer friends I work with though.

If someone has never heard you before how would you describe your sound?

I don’t know, you just have to experience it. It’s different when you’re the one making music. I just be myself and say/produce what I feel.

What’s your wardrobe like? What’s your daily outfit?

A lot of things I do are based on how I feel, so I have no daily outfit. It all depends on how I feel that day. That also goes with the artists/music I listen to. It’s all based on how I feel. I’ve always been into fashion though. I had a clothing line going a year or two ago, the shirt was called “Triple-X” it was something I designed on the spot at this place called Little 5 Points.

What’s the last album you listened to?

EXIS by Roy Wood$, he’s dope.

How did you first get introduced to hip hop and rap music?

Watching BET/MTV and hanging out with friends. Growing up in a Nigerian household my parents did not play hip hop or rap ha ha.

If you could work with anyone in the world past or present who would it be?

Probably Michael Jackson.

What do you want people to know about you as a person and a rapper?

I just want the world to enjoy the music I make.

I remember a few years ago people were worried about the state of hip hop but after listening to music like Jeremy’s all your worries should be gone.
