Toronto becomes Dreamy with Elsa

The shoegazing,  dream-pop sound, made famous by Best Coast and DIIV, has finally come to the Great White North.  Elsa is a quartet, led by Jonathan Rogers (vocal & guitar), with his three friends Matthew Goldman (guitar), Jesse Mirsky (bass) and Angie Wong (drums), and they are reminiscent of the 80’s and 90’s indie rock.

Their debut EP, “In Two” is a great beginning to a career that will hopefully grow and flourish over the next few years.  There is a fuzzy quality to the vocal track that makes Jonathan’s voice feel both distant and very intimate at the same time.  The drums are constantly keeping every song together, and greatly compliment the guitar riffs.

There is a definite sound similar to early music from The Smiths and Late 90’s Belle and Sebastian, leading to many mistaking Elsa for being British.

A release date for a debut LP has not been released yet, but Elsa is currently touring around Canada to support “In Two”

They play The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern tomorrow night, April 9th) supporting Dean Wareham
