If you still have enough energy after Day 1, Field Trip has another day packed full of fantastic bands to rock your socks off (if you’re wearing any).  Here are some of the awesome acts prepared to officially kick off your outdoor summer music festival season.

Absolutely Free

A local group that has been gracing many stages around Toronto over the past year or so, Absolutely Free have the best words to describe themselves, “Set to create hypnotic, patient music that integrates analog electronics, African polyrhythms, psychedelia, Bollywood and Krautrock.” even with that, it is still hard to put them into a genre, so they definitely live up to their name as being Absolutely Free.

Temples

Glam rock meets psychedlia with Temples, a British band from Kittering.  Formed in 2012, Temples have grown fast with alot of success in their native UK and touring internationally at different festivals and supporting acts such as Kasabian and The Vaccines.

Father John Misty

One of indie rock’s hottest acts right now, ex-Fleet Foxes drummer Josh Tillman is returning to Toronto to support his sophomore album, I Love You, Honeybear. (My review is here).  A blend of raw lyrics with folk, rock, and psychedelia, Father John Misty’s set will be one for the books.

Dan Mangan + Blacksmith

Another favourite of mine, Dan Mangan + Blacksmith bring heavier rock than we usually expect from Dan, to the Field trip stage.  With their new album Club Meds, Dan is accompanied by a fuller sound with brass and synths (also reviewed by me here.)  Their live shows blend new music with old fan favourites, which will definitely please the crowd.

Rhye

After a day of rocking out, chill out and sway along with Rhye.  This Montreal-L.A. duo delivers chillwave R&B tunes that are multi-layered and expertly delivered.  When you first hear Rhye, most people think that they have a female lead singer, but it is two guys.
