Today’s Therapy: You Gots 2 Chill by Brendan Canning
Welcome back for another one of your favourite therapy sessions…the non-court ordered type that is!
This time around I don’t even need to explain just how easy-going this music is as Brendan Canning from Broken Social Scene aptly names his second solo-album You Gots 2 Chill (yeah you gots to chill). With phenomenal guitar and sonar keyboard sounds, Brendan forces me into a dream state where I hang off of every slight drift from the main riff created within “Makes You Motor”.
Ahhh, I love when an artist creates their own label and starts signing indie bands. It’s a gold mine for finding music you know you’ll love. For me that was Isaac Brock’s Glacial Pace, but I’ll make sure to check out the rest of Draper Street Records’ line up and let you know. I bet it would be an extremely satisfying feeling after going through the music industry to finally have a label to call your own, knowing that you can create music with complete control. Speaking of control, have a listen to some neat slide guitar in this instrumental tune entitled “Post Fahey”.
Despite all my talk about acoustic guitars in previous posts, the melody that kept me coming back to this album and eventually swayed me to write this post was the synthesizer used in the chorus of “However Long”. The catchy and simplistic four note piano run, followed by the odd-sounding synth was the true winner here. Well done, sir.
The album in its entirety is incredible, so make sure to check it out. As always, thanks for stopping by to appreciate some more music!
Much love,
